Oh innocent poor black child of the soil

By Atok Dan

Oh child of black mother

Mother of the black soil

Oh child of abuse

Abused because of your dark soil

Proud colour of your soil

True reflect of your colour

Soil of your ancestors

Oh child of altered history

Oh soil of altered history

Oh child of true distorted history

Whose ownership of the soil is denied

Whose ownership of the history is denied

Oh helpless black child

Oh blindfolded child

Stand tall for your history

History of your pride

See the defeated monster

He still struggle

Struggle to rejuvenate

Struggle to foster his deceits

Snake-like creature

Known of his deceits

Oh innocent poor black child of the soil

Of your depleted resources

Never be cajole

Cajole by ill gifts

Products of your own soil

Why let yourself be flatter

Over your rightful riches

Over your fruitful rocky black soil

Over your wealthy black soil

Oh bloodiest black soil

Oh unjust black soil

Over you is blood of your child

On you is your child cries for long denied justice

Denied over centuries

Oh black soil whose child is a beginner in twenty first century

Is it the best of your child?

Child you laboured

Laboured to protect you

Oh confused black soil

Oh confused poor black child of the soil

Oh black soil embed with ill-differences in her child

Your only child

On the foot of Imatong

Along the rocky valleys of the Nile

Along the swamps of the Nile

Along the well-scattered seasonal savannah lands

Among the thick equatorial forests

Oh unmerciful black soil

Oh black soil of diverse beauties

Of the continuous cascading rivers

Of the short and tall

Of the hilly and plain lands

Oh black soil that has completely swallowed

Series of its generations

Oh descriptive bread basket of the region

Hear the cries of your child

Discard the laughter of your sojourners

Oh my rightful and fascinate black soil.
